![]() It’s much darker, grittier and horrific than the American campaign. I found the Russian story to be the more compelling and varied of the two, the very first mission begins with a great scene that really sets the tone of murderous revenge that permeates the Russian campaign. The second campaign is played out in the Pacific, from the perspective of an American Marine at a point where the Japanese are being so overwhelmed in numbers that they’ve begun their kamikaze suicide runs. Firstly that of a Russian soldier as the Red Army avenges the siege of Stalingrad and pushes the Wehrmacht back into Germany, and from there on to street skirmishes in Berlin and eventual victory. We’re back in World War II this time around, following the military campaign from two perspectives. Call of Duty: World at War is a really good game, and whilst history will invariably view it as being in Call of Duty 4’s shadow, Treyarch have done themselves proud here and produced one of the better games in the series. So it’s a relief to be proven wrong, at least partially. Compare their track history with Infinity Ward’s, the company responsible for the more critically praised Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4, and you might understand my initial scepticism. I’ve owned and enjoyed most of the games in the series, including Call of Duty 3, which I consider it to be by far the weakest. As a fan of the series I was highly sceptical of Call of Duty: World at War. On June 25, 2018, Gray Television announced it would acquire Montgomery, Alabama–based Raycom Media for $3.65 billion. WTOK-TV has been digital-only since June 12, 2009. When Benedek's parent company went bankrupt in 2002, current owner Gray Television bought most of the Benedek portfolio, including WTOK. That year, Benedek Broadcasting bought WTOK. WTOK also served as a partial Fox affiliate in the mid-1990s, carrying NFL broadcasts as well as selected Fox programming in late night time-slots, after ABC programming had ended for the day. WTOK-TV was fortunate enough to gain that license, and consequently became the only station to serve the Meridian area until WHTV started in 1968 (however, that station went off the air in 1970, for a year and a half) WMAW (a Mississippi Public Broadcasting station) would not sign on until 1972. There was one song that played when they first met, so to speak, that gave me goosebumps - It is sung by Chrissie Hynde. And for the two characters, played by Ewan McGregor and Ashley Judd, the force between them, even though they hardly shared many moments together, evoked that law of physics stunningly. They say: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In acting reaction is the essence of the medium but can be written totally out of whack of real life. Behavior is thought to be a reaction of or to something. Lastly, to me, Eye of the Beholder said something about real life - not so much what the characters said but they way they behaved. How does one portray such sadness, desperation to find something secure or recapture what they lost especially when there isn't a tremendous amount of dialogue? Well, both of the actors did - and did it quite well.Īnother reason to see this film is that it is untainted with a typical Hollywood ending. But I have to entice you guys, right? Ewan looks cute, of course, and Ashley Judd is quite attractive but what impressed me the most were their performances. I really don't want to give anything away about this movie because it was lovely to see a film that I knew nothing about. Or is it something else completely? And can it have a happy ending? Well, I am not going to answer that - you'll just have to see for yourself. When people see themselves in someone else who has experienced similar tragedies/heartaches/loss it can be a very powerful attraction. But as the story unfolds I don't think either are really crazy - just lonely and trying to gain some stability in their lives. Okay, one might be more insane than the other. I saw a man and a woman who are both so alone, scared and with thoughts of such tremendous loss that they might be a little insane. Yes, I know what it says above but this is what I saw in this film (Eye of the Beholder, people). This is a story about redemption, a thriller, and a love story but not necessarily in that order. So today before I had to pick up the kids from camp I popped it in. I didn't get a chance to see it that night - although I really, really wanted to. All of the above methods are based on contact with a surface, called a paten, and until relatively recently, only contact-based methods of fingerprint capture were available.Ĭontactless fingerprint scanning has also been developed, using both dedicated devices and smartphone cameras. Thermal scanners detect the difference in temperature in the ridges and valleys of a fingerprint and creates an image based on the differences in heat, as ridges emanate more heat than valleys. Ultrasound scans emit a high frequency wave that is sent out to a finger and returned with details on the minutiae finger, similar to sonar. Capacitive scans capture the path of electronic signals across the finger to measure features. A capacitive scan utilizes capacitors that store an electric charge and records the details of a fingerprint. An optical scan essentially photographs an image of a person’s fingerprint for comparison to a stored template. To scan minutiae, optical, capacitive, ultrasound, and thermal scanners are employed. The “minutiae” – a pattern of ridges and valleys in a finger – are the most notable and distinct feature of a fingerprint, which makes them ideal to be captured in fingerprint identification. These factors make fingerprint identification a useful biometric for identifying a person, as it is incredibly unlikely to duplicated, have a false positive or brute forced. Fingerprint biometrics also remain the foundation of many civil registries and national ID systems, border control processes and enterprise systems.įingerprints are virtually unique to every individual, consistent across a lifetime and are mostly ubiquitous. Used in forensics labs since the 1800s, the method has become digitized and automated since the 1960s, and the technology is now embedded in consumer smartphones and laptops for convenient and secure access control. Fingerprints continue to represent one of the most common forms of biometrics people encounter on a daily basis. The mass adoption of fingerprint identification as a key for unlocking access to protected consumer electronics has grown in popularity. ![]() |
